Honoring Ricky Revesz

RICKY REVESZ

Richard (“Ricky”) Revesz is currently administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, a regulatory division within the Office of Management and Budget; he was nominated by President Biden in September 2022 and confirmed by the US Senate in December 2022. As Associate Dean, I reported to Ricky for eleven years while he was dean at NYU School of Law. I am naming this room in honor of Ricky Revesz because of the impact that his intellect and genuine listening had on me as a professional, his mentorship had on our students, his scholarship has had on the field of environmental law and policy, and his leadership of NYU Law and the American Law Institute has had on legal academia.

In his first year as dean, Ricky taught me that “you cannot manage what you do not measure.” Under his deanship, I learned to quantify many of the goals of our office and use my research data to encourage law firms to hire more holistically rather than evaluating students based on grades alone. Ricky worked tirelessly on behalf of NYU Law, as a faculty member, mentor, scholar and leader and I was continuously inspired by his swift and creative problem-solving, commitment to his family, and advocacy on behalf of our students. As an advocate, he regularly asked me to curate a list of law firms that were good fits for students who were struggling in the job search and he took time from his over-extended schedule to personally advocate for them. Ricky lived the adage “if you want something done, give it to a busy person,” thus inspiring my commitment to students and alumni at NYU Law for over 38 years.
